POINT TO CONSIDER BEFORE PURCHASING YOUR BEEF: Unlike your typical beef, our longhorn meet comes from all grass fed cattle which in turn requires longer time to mature for slaughter - 2 to 2.5 years for prime meat. This makes our cost higher but our meat much better and healthier for human consumption.
According to DoctorHealthPress@lombardipublishing.com, "the cattle industry feeds their animals either grain or grass. This gives you a choice: buy grain-fed beef or buy grass-fed beef. The wisest choice is most certainly grass-fed beef. It even trumps so-called "organic" meat. Grass-fed cattle have more omega-3 fatty acids than grain-fed cattle do.
Cows are meant to eat grass; they naturally exist on pastures. Grass is healthier for them and, in turn, it is healthier for us. Why would we feed them grain, which is less healthy for us? The answer is that it is cheaper for the farmers. It is also easier to control grain feed than to allow cattle full access to a pasture. Instead of this, they are put in feed lots, where they are fed grain in effort to fatten them up and get them to the market quicker.
Basically, cows manufacture omega-3 fatty acids from the grass in their stomachs. And with the evidence out there about the omega-3 to omega-6 ratio (most of us are higher in omega-6s than we should be), it's clear that beef can be, like fish,an important source of the unsaturated fat you need for the maintenance of good health."
$1,400.00 per cow or approximately $1,700.00 including meat processing fee. Whole and half Beef are available. We take orders via email in late April for slaughter in late August.
Range in weight from 700 - 750 lb. Based on 725 lb. cow, you’ll get at least 265 lb. of packaged meat at around $6.00 per pound!! *** Please see Note on Meat Processing Cost below***
Note on Meat Processing Cost:
Indian Prairie Ranch has negotiated a special $135.00 per cow “KILL FEE” with a local meat processing company in their FDA inspected facility.
The actual meat processing fee will be based on the hanging weight of your animal (approximately, 45% less than its live weight) multiplied by $0.95 . That’s on average, about additional $300.00 for a 725 lb. cow. Figures given above are estimates only, based on average weight. Clients will handle the processing fee by check or credit card with the meat processing company directly, when picking up their meat. For any further information, please feel free to call us or e-mail us.
